Introducing the CDN Speed Art Challenge!

Participate and get CDN DevPoints!

What is it?
The Speed Art Challenge is a challenge to create a work of art according to the challenge rules in One Straight Run of 2 Hours.

How often will it happen?
We will be releasing new topics for the Speed Art Challenge twice a month, and the challenge will happen during the second and fourth weeks of each month. So you have a week to find a 2hr slot that works for you and create your entry in one straight run.

Can't people cheat then?
This is a challenge, not a contest. The goal is to better yourself as an artist. And we trust you to be honest about your experiences with the challenge.

When is it starting? Now?
Yup. I'm working on the first theme post now.

Ratings and Points
Each entry will be self-rated as a PASS or FAIL. We'd like to emphasize that the Speed Art Challenge is to test your own skills as an artist. Points will be given based only upon being able to accomplish the goal of the challenge. You will be awarded for participating.

Critiques
Since the goal of this challenge is to better yourself, as a participant of the challenge you are encouraged to critique and comment on the other entries.

Posting Art
Art entries must be posted in the appropriate Speed Art Challenge thread. You are responsible for finding hosting for your images. You may use online services such as dropbox or imagebucket to host your files. When posting the image use the "Thumb" button to create a thumbnail. somthing like this:
Code:
[Thumb=M]http://url/for/my/image[/Thumb]

Other Questions?
Just post your questions in this thread and we'll discuss them.

Just to clarify, is the goal to create a usable game asset in 2 hrs? Or is usability not a factor?

@HanClinto This first contest is kind of free form to let people get a handle on the time frame. We'll add more restrictions on usability later.

@JeTSpice Thanks for catching that. I fixed it.

I came up with an idea for one just today(though I am not the one in charge of this contest). Maybe one could be done based on the scripture about the 4 beasts described in Jeremiah,Ezekiel, and Revelations. can't think of the exact verses at the moment but I would love to see what every one comes up with.

That would be cool, christo. I'd be curious to see what the others make, too. I'll look up some verses later today when I have some time. There was also a beast described in Daniel, wasn't there?

I haven't been seeing many of these challenges running. I think these kind of things will increase the vitality of these boards.

What would it take to get more of these running?

I think it is refering to a different set of beasts as the ones in the Ezekiel(found out I misremembered about Jerimiah) all four beasts had four faces. In the david reference only one of the beasts had four heads. But it is a very interesting reference.

The scripture in Ezekiel I was refering to wasEzekiel 1 and Ezekiel 10.

This next paragraph is kinda half on topic. Might be better placed in the faith talk section.

I think Ezekial must have been in John's reading on the isle of Patmos. There is more than just the four beasts in that book that is practically the same. I am starting to think the Revelations was not a new revelation but rather John showing Christ in the prophesis of the Old Testament. I actually found out that the short title of the book in hebrew would have been "the revelation of Jesus Christ". We miss a lot with just the title "Revelations" and we miss some of the purpose of the book. here is a reference on this http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/commentaries/IVP-NT/Rev/Title

What if we just set the topic as "Creature that only appears in the Bible" and leave the specific creature up to the artists?

Well, i have to say that on theological basis i would argue against that "Creature that appears only in the bible".

For in my theological view, if it appears in the bible, it can appear anywhere.

Akthough yeah, things in revelations are many times to my understanding interpretations of something foreseen. Ie. if they saw in revelation 7 headed cow, it doesnt necessarily mean there is 7 headed cow lurking somewhere, but it might represent council of 7 farmers.

Well, what I meant by "animal that only appears in the Bible" is something like "an animal described in the Bible that doesn't fit the description of any animal known to be alive today" but I was lazy and didn't want to type that :D
