We've been working with developers for over 2 years and still no site to launch because they don't know Joomla. We finally bought Joomla for Dummies but we still need a LOT of help, especially with structure, functionality and extensions so we're looking for referrals. Thanks much.

Hi mom2momless, welcome to the site!

Several of the users here use Joomla (including my wife, who helped me set up my Joomla site). What sort of site are you looking to create, and what issues are you running up against?

Thanks!

Thank you so much for your response! I'm beginning to see a glimmer of hope!!

We're dealing with several issues with our current developers:

1) A lack of design expertise is causing our site to emerge with a somewhat 'corporate' 'templated' look and feel which is not what we wanted. We want warm and fuzzy, all the way.
2) A severe lack of project management and 'hand holding'. We've had to manage the project ourselves and we are not web developers so it's been like sprinting through molasses (we've been at this for over 2 years, spent nearly $10,000 with not nearly enough to show for it). We have very little communication with the developers (no response to emails/inquiries, etc). They tend to go off on their own, thinking they know what we want or give erroneous advice, and then blame us for delays when changes are needed. We had an embarrassing launch announcement last fall and had to relent. We are afraid to tell our ladies a new date for fear it will happen again and our developers simply won't tell us when they think it can be completed.
3) The lack of Joomla expertise has caused us to make several erroneous decisions regarding overall site structure, functionality, extensions needed, modules to use, etc. We need someone who see the "Big Picture", take control, and ADVISE us how it can be accomplished, tools we need, etc.

We finally bought "Joomla for Dummies" and have been trying to arm ourselves to better work with our developers but we've given up on them, due to lack of trust in their competence. We need someone to talk to us, really listen, and then help us determine how to move forward so we can launch our site. Do you think your wife would be willing to look at our site and give us an evaluation? I have a Skype account and could do a video call.
