Ugh.
I mean like... ugh.
Is it really so hard to find a reliable community of people that can remain civil? Our core beliefs in the very existence of our race differ greatly, yet... I can come here and ramble and rant in a civil manner can't I?
I frequent other online forums, mostly for hobby interests of mine but it seems that if you ever step outside the hive-mind and have an opinion of the own you're shunned. Shunnnnn, shunnnn the non-believer
I felt I should drop by and give the old coding community a how-do-ye-do while I was thinking about it. A small shout-out to say you have one of the most civil communities that I've ever experienced.
---
That being said I'll probably try to frequent around here for the next little while to see what kind of grumble I can get into, a break from the usual crap that is the internet. Hope you'll have me.
As for me I've been working for a local telecommunications research and development company doing a lot of development work for an upcoming IPTV system for our province. Lots of PHP/MySQL coding tied in with ASPX/C# applications (*shudder*) using extensive XML crapiola. Ask questions if you have them... I'm under contract not to release certain details but I should be able to give you the 1, 2 if interested.
PS. Now that I think about it Starcraft2 is released in like 20 minutes. I might fall off the face of the earth for a week or so.

Hey, nice to see you back!
Was wondering where your Avatar had went.
About that IP TV box.
Friend of mine was planning to bring those to Finland at one point, and I think hes still basically interested.
He actually found a box that he was happy for from China, but since it wasnt ROHS standard compliant and he didnt understand and trust Chinese culture enough, it never became reality.
Therefore can you answer me couple of questions:
1. Are you interested in selling your boxes to here in Finland.
2. What is the minimum amount needed to be ordered, i think friend would be extremely happy if he could order in batches of only hundred/s.
3. Can you send me some details about the box to for example to my PM, if you dont want to tell them publicly.
He was in Co-operation with Finnish Christian TV-Channel, so i believe couple of hundred of those boxes would be sold very quick and reliably, unless the train already went by.

Welcome back. ASPX/C# combined with PHP/MySQL? WOW. Quote: Is it really so hard to find a reliable community of people that can remain civil? yes it is.... Especially when people can remain semi-anonymous. Something about there being no consequences to actions. So that IPTV, your working on the programming/networking side of things? This is actually the first time I've heard of IPTV but it looks like a very interesting way of doing things. I wonder why its not more widespread.... (do you have anything to say on this subject?) Personally I don't own a TV or a cable box (my laptop serves as a TV). But whats the advantage of IPTV over using a computer? I'm guessing it would be far cheaper and easier to set up... anything else?

@PFC
IPTVs (TV Over Internet boxes)
Are actually quite widespread. It just depends on what part of world you are at.
Here in Finland, people dont even know what that is, even less have it. No even semi serious player, if even any small player is bringing them to market at this point.
But when my wife came here, she was wondering why dont we have IPTVs here. For in China she said that its more than half of the people use IPTV.
What comes to why use IPTV instead of computer.
Why buy XBOX instead of PC. I mean, XBOX is just a PC with less possibilties and power.
Or why buy any Console instead of computer. Any Console is just downgraded computer.
So we come to same with IPTV boxes.
They are handy and easy to use with one purpose only. To work as TV.
With computer you first need to turn on the computer, then start the rogramming, maybe put it to dull screen and all.
While IPTV, you just turn it on and change the channel you want.
On top of working as a normal tv, it also can work as a web browser, and you can even save some web addressess to your channels list.
So Channel 7 could be for example some You tube Channel or any Internet TV Station.
Also, because it works over internet, when compared to todays Digiboxes, Digiboxes are to my understanding (im not expert, so i might be talking wrong here now) limited to their techinal possibilities in how good picture they can show, while IPTV boxes theres no limit to what kind of picture they can basically show, that it is just a matter of software (that can be updated even automatically) and your internet connection speed.
Although naturally there is some limit to how fast box can take stuff from internet. but for example HDTV and couple of next generations after that proapbly arent problem at all yet even to current IPTV boxes, as long as software is updated.
But in short.
Its hard to make granny buy Computer, but IPTV box is almost like the old tv. And also cheaper than computer.
And its also much nicer to have IPTV box in your summer house as a tv that you can get showing channel and changing channel by push of a remote control button, than full blown computer that you need to first wait couple of minutes perhaps just to load it up and then start the program and...
Oh, and almost forgot. There is one big advantage in to having separate device instead of computer from sellers point of view, when they are also internet service providers.
For Internet Service providers can give devices different priorities to their network.
Therefore they can sell IPTV box that they can somewaht guarantee to work, as they put the prioirity for their box higher than normal computer users priority.
This also gives the unfair advtage to bigger companies. For if you as a small company start selling those IPTV boxes and you actually open the whole market for those IPTV boxes in your country, then the big players come and eat the fruits ftom the marketyou created by lowering your boxes priority and making their own boxes priority higher.
Which results in you selling crappy boxes that dont show tv properly while their more expensive box is superior to your box, since it can actually show tv wihtout any interruptions. Sucky thing, but what can you do about it.
Basically this also means, that IPTV boxes work better than computers internet TV, since normal home omputer internet gets the normal priority only, while dedicated boxes get the high priority.
