What is a Sprint? A sprint would be when people from a community gather together to make specific assets for a specific project for no other reason other than to help out , in our case, a struggling game development studio.
How long would this "sprint" go on for?
The maximum amount of time would be about three (3) days per sprint session. This is so that people could help, but not be distracted from their normal flow of work, hobbies and such for too long.
What's the point of this Poll? To gather interest, answer questions, and find out how many of you (the community) would be interested in such an activity. So vote, ask questions, and please give it some thought. It would be a great way to help support those in the Christian Game-Development Community.
Thanks,
JJZ26

I love the idea. Although we wouldn't be able to do much, I'm sure that the help would go a long way.
Personally I can help with simple textures and basic 2D and 3D effects. I could also help if small amounts of coding are needed in languages like python, ruby, or C. Anything from simple ai to basic web stuff.
If we where to have semiregilar sprints I'm sure we could greatly help provide assets that would otherwise need to be bought.
Looking forward to seeing what others think.

Sounds like an interesting idea. When I work on my own projects I tend to do them in sprints. If I contributed it would probably be in C# or VB.net code. 3d is still mostly out of my range, but I know a bit about 2d graphics using GDI++ or XNA. Tricky part for me is scheduling as I don't know my schedule very far in advance and I would rarely ever have 3 days off straight. One possibility that could be set up is some sort of calendar where those interested could mark their availability. Maybe in combination with this some sort of work que. A question to ask is if those needing help will be looking for available developers or developers looking for those who need help? Downside to availability type system is it can be a little disheartening if it should start looking baren.
A word of caution would be when those asking for help ask for it they should be somewhat specific(or maybe be available for questions?) or they may be helped in ways that they may not have wanted. This is particularly true in coding as what one developer thinks would make the whole system simpler may involve removing a part that may be needed in a part they don't know about.

Good idea, i guess that could be something to consider. christo wrote: A question to ask is if those needing help will be looking for available developers or developers looking for those who need help? Also a good point. i was thinking, to get started, we would ask a company if they would need help and if we got requests those too would be considered for the sprint(s). If anyone has a better idea(s), feel free to express them. christo wrote: A word of caution would be when those asking for help ask for it they should be somewhat specific(or maybe be available for questions?) or they may be helped in ways that they may not have wanted. The idea would be that we would commander the IRC to suit this purpose. The guy in charge of the project would be there to oversee/critique the process. Before the commencement of the sprint, a list of the things needed to be done would be posted on the boards and people would grab the part of the project to work on that they choose. Sam had a great idea that we do the sprint "pipeline style". That is the first day or first few hours, one would work on concept art, the next few hours people would work on models, the next few hours on rigging, animating and implementing with code etc. thanks to those so far who showed interest, JJZ26

Cool idea for sure. I could contribute 3D models, C++ code, and basic sound FX (I have a lot of nice Foley items ).

Had to choose the other.
Problem with gfx is that i havent been doing it for so long that i wouldnt be able to do it in high quality enough.
Coding problem is, that while i could provide that, im using language that no one else is, so its no use.
But other...
I could help in some translation to Finnish-English either way round, maybe riting some manual text, marketing things etc.
Im actually getting idea here, but im going to post about that some time later, i first let this topic live for a while and contact one other forum member in hopes he has some good idea for my idea.

I like the idea, but I don't think that I'm accomplished enough as a programmer to be much help.

I think art related stuff would be easier to provide... as its hard to help someone program when you have no clue where they are at...
Other ideas would be helping going through text and giving input.
If anyone needs translations, I can help with french and english
